about

"Soon" is a B-Sides/Covers album featuring leftover material from the very start of the project in March 2013, to the most recent recording of "Infinity" in November/December of 2014. The first disc features songs leftover from various recording sessions, and the second disc features cover songs of some personal favorites, also recorded over the span of 2 years at different occasions.

"Ghost Trail" comes from the Fade Into Oblivion sessions, and was a song I really liked and wanted to have on the album. But I scrapped it from the album, because it was both a pretty long song (and would have made the album longer than I wanted) but also because it shared a lot of similarities with the title track, being an ambient/drone track with guitar feedback.

"Acid Drop" was initially created during the Bright Lights sessions in March of 2013. It was a fun little idea that I couldn't fit onto the album. I wanted a Post-Rock/Ambient vibe on the album, and Acid Drop would have stuck out like a sore thumb. One major inspiration for this song was the 2013 album "Shaking the Habitual" by The Knife.

"Continuum" was created during the Infinity sessions and also went under the nicknames of "Eternity" and "Infinity (Part IV)". I was pleased with the final result of the song, but I had to leave it out of the album due to pacing problems. I felt the album flowed much better the way it was released, and I just couldn't fit this song into the mix.

"Spiral Shadow" is a very early demo of the song "I Sat By the Ocean" from Beyond the Sea. This version starts off similarly to what ended up on Beyond the Sea, but the second half of the song takes a darker and more experimental turn, something I felt would have been a bit out of place on the warm & bright summer album I was creating. So I changed the song quite a bit and stripped it down, but here it is, in its darkest and most experimental form!

"The Day Before You Came" was written during the Time Will Fade Away sessions, but never really materialized into something I considered putting on the album. Again, it would have stuck out among the other tracks, and I just had to leave it off.

"Summer Theme" is part of the Paris in the Summer track, and one of the first pieces of music I wrote for Beyond the Sea. In my opinion I feel it is the theme that best captures the spirit of summer on that album, and while it is part of Paris in the Summer, I always planned on eventually releasing the short little theme on its own. So here it is!

"Celestial" was written after Time Will Fade Away, and originally planned for the orchestral album "Mount Infinity", which I scrapped when I decided to take on another direction for what became Infinity. Mount Infinity was going to be a continuation of the Into the Forest style, and this was the first song I wrote for that project. Coming off Time Will Fade Away, I had used some choirs and experimented in the title track, and "Celestial" continues down that route, but with an orchestral sound. A lot of choir-stuff in it.

"Efflorescence (Live)" was recorded during the Live in the Bedroom sessions but never released on the album, after I cut down the length to 15 songs. I released a live version of this on soundcloud earlier during the fall. That was the first recording, this recording is from day 2 of recording, but the recordings are very similar and almost identical.

"Kowloon Alley" was written by Joseph Tingle and sent to me for the making of Infinity, and with the addition of guitar drone and a vocal sample by Alan Watts, the final version eventually became "Evening Sun". Kowloon Alley is in that sense a very early demo version of Evening Sun, and basically what Joseph Tingle provided for the song. A really nice and eerie landscape.
