"Sooner" is a B-Sides/Covers album featuring leftover material from early 2015 to the most recent recording of "Arrival" in 2017. The first disc features songs leftover from various recording sessions, and the second disc features cover songs of some personal favorites, also recorded over the span of 2 years at different occasions.

"Voodoo Dance" was originally written for Atlas but fell by the wayside as the song was only about 75% done and I couldn't finish it. Upon revisiting old songs, a spark was lit and I was finally able to finish this song which is jazzier than anything I've done before.

"Serenity" was written during the Arrival sessions but was ultimately not on the album because it didn't quite fit into it style-wise. Still a B-side I was quite pleased with, and happy to finally release.

"Cerberus" was originally written for The Light Between Oceans, and another song where I was going for a Deafheaven/Alcest style of blackgaze. It was written and recorded during those sessions but using other software and with a different production as a result. Since it didn't have the same sonic stamp as the other songs on that album, I decided to not put it on the album.

"The Message" was written for First Light earlier in 2017 and was to appear on the album until late second when I finished "Lakeshore Drive" and decided to switch them out. This song was meant as a sort of transitional track but in the final version of the album it just felt out of place.

"Beggars and Thieves" was originally written in the early sessions for Atlas when I had a different direction in mind, and was later released as a stand alone single in 2016. Upon finalizing a tracklist for this collection, I realized that nobody likes keeping track of singles so it only felt logical to add this song. I look back at this track with fond memories and it's another entry in the Into the Forest musical style.

"Drowning" was originally written for The Stars in the Sky are Distant Cities on Fire, which I found on an telephone where I had recorded ideas written away from home. Had completely forgotten about it and was happy to salvage this fun little ambient track.

"The Chasm" was written for Ukiyo in late 2016 but was left off because it ended up being more busy/layered than most of the other song written for the album. I still enjoyed the song and wanted to keep it around in case I would get a chance to release it. Well, here it is!

"The Stars and the Moon (Live)" was an early recording from the upcoming "Live in the Living Room" album, my second live album. Originally I wrote down a group of songs I wanted to interpret in a live style, but ultimately this one was cut from the final tracklist (yet to be revealed). I still really enjoyed this version though, a more dark and twisted version of an Arrival favorite.

"Balloons" was written for Arrival and was a song I was really happy with. Felt like a nice tranquil ending to the album, but upon finishing the title track I had the dilemma of two songs I wanted as closers. Knowing I had enough songs and covers for a follow-up to Soon, I made the decision to save this one so I could have both songs as closers. Worked out well!
